Game 21: Cochrane-Fountain City @ Immanuel

At Eau Claire Immanuel
February 27, 2012

Eau Claire Immanuel: 64 (17-4, 10-3)
Cochrane-Fountain City: 52 (7-11, 4-9)

The Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran Lancers are now the 2011-12 Small Dairyland Conference Champs!

The win moved them to 10-3 for conference games after starting out 0-2.  Tonight Alma/Pepin also beat Independence, 53-37, meaning that both teams will share the conference title with 10-3 conference records.  However, Immanuel tied up Alma/Pepin tonight with 674 CPF (conference points for) and yet maintains its better defensive conference status with 563 CPA (conference points against) to Alma/Pepin's CPA of 581.  Immanuel also has a better overall record with 17-4 versus Alma/Pepin's 14-5.  In addition, Immanuel's RPI is 0.57 compared to Alma/Pepin's 0.53.  So with all other factors, Immanuel comes out ahead (see conference page).

In some ways it was another record-breaking night for the Lady Lancers.  They continued building upon the most wins in a season with 17, the previous record being 14.  The team tied the longest winning streak of an Immanuel team with 8 straight wins, a record previously held by the 2005-06 Lancers who also won the Small Dairyland Conference title.  The team was one free-throw shy of a free-throw record by being 27 for 36, compared to a 28 for 44 free throw game against Lake Holcombe on 12/1/2009.  However, they did it with a higher FT% with 75.0% compared to 63.6%.  In addition, Abbie Hein became the all-time leading scorer for girls basketball at Immanuel.  She surpassed the previous record held by Missy Fleischer of 1,081 points.  By scoring 31 tonight, Abbie now has 1,105 points.

To cap off the festive atmosphere of the night, it was Senior Night for the Immanuel girls basketball program.  Tonight Hannah Tiefel, Zoe Zippert, and Chrissy Kazemba were all honored for their contributions to the program.  Thank you ladies for all your efforts and your performance through your years at Immanuel!!

WIAA Girls Basketball Page
WIAA Division 5 Brackets
(Immanuel is in Sectional #3, Half Bracket A or Neilsville Half-Sectional)

The WIAA has released its tournament schedule and seeding for Division 5.  This year the tournament is seeded by the half-sectional of 16 teams, unlike previous years when it was seeded by the regional of 8 teams.  Eau Claire Immanuel received the #3 seed in Sectional 3, Neilsville Half-Sectional.  This means Immanuel will host the first game and potentially the second.

To begin the tournament Eau Claire Immanuel will play at home against the #14 seed, Cochrane-Fountain City, on Tue., March 6, 7 pm.  In its previous meeting, Immanuel defeated Cochrane-Fountain City in an away game, 46-43.  They also play one another tomorrow in a key game to determine if Immanuel has a share in the Small Dairyland Conference Championship.

Here's how the half-sectional was seeded:
