Game 20: Immanuel @ Plum City

More updates coming ...

At Plum City
February 16, 2013

Eau Claire Immanuel:  53   (16-3, 11-1)

Plum City:  42  (8-10, 7-7)

NOTE:  The Lady Lancers extended their winning streak to 13 games this evening by beating Plum City 53-42.  Immanuel led for nearly the entire game and seemed to be in control of the game the entire way.  The win should put them in a good position to get either the #1 or #2 seed at the WIAA Regional seeding meeting tomorrow (post regarding seeding meeting).

From The Pierce County Herald:

Plum City hoops teams both lose Saturday

PLUM CITY - Plum City's boys and girls basketball teams both lost Saturday at home. The girls fell 52-43 to Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran in non-conference action while the boys were beaten 62-28 by Elk Mound to wrap-up the regular season.

PC took an early 4-0 lead but the Lancers got back before the end of the first quarter. Every time the Blue Devils would get close, whether it was 16-15 in the first half, 25-19 at halftime, 37-32 just before the fourth quarter, ECIL would simply go on a run to force the Blue Devils to play catch-up. Immanuel went on a 8-2 run right after halftime and a 10-0 to start the fourth quarter.

Freshman Cheyanne Catura led Plum City, 8-10 overall, in scoring with 14 points. She was the only PC player in double figures as Sarah Gilles was next with eight points. Catura provided a spark for the Blue Devils on offense as she helped engineer an 11-4 run before the end of the third quarter by scoring eight points while guard Shelby Kannel hit a three-pointer. Immanuel, 17-3 overall, did an effective job collapsing around the Devils' two top scores, Marah Boyer and Heather Von Holtum, defensively. ECIL's Abbie Hein led all scorers with 20 points.

2013 WIAA Seeding Meeting Tomorrow

WIAA Girls Basketball Page
WIAA Division 5 Brackets
(Immanuel is in Sectional #1, Regional D)

Tomorrow is the WIAA seeding meeting for the regional in which Immanuel is included (see earlier post).  The resultant seeded brackets will be updated during the weekend, most likely on Sunday.  We will post the results on the blog.

Here are this blogger's Top 10 convincing arguments for Immanuel to secure the #1 seed:

  1. Small Dairland Conference title
  2. Immanuel has a 17-3 record, Clayton 16-3 (WSN has a win repeated in its database)
  3. Immanuel challenged itself to tougher non-conference opponents this season
  4. Immanuel has won 13 games in a row, Clayton just 3-game winning streak
  5. Immanuel is undefeated (13-0) in 2013 (since Christmas break), Clayton is 9-2 in 2013
  6. Immanuel had a close early-season loss to Regis who won the Western Cloverbelt Conference, recognized as one of the toughest conferences in the area
  7. Immanuel is 3-2 against opponents larger than Division 5, Clayton 2-2
  8. Immanuel has defeated every conference opponent since its opening conference loss on the road, beating every conference team at least once (Clayton lost at home to Northwood recently on 2/5)
  9. Immanuel was hardened and won some tight games during a stretch when team had key injuries (e.g., 2OT win over Independence, 52-50 come-from-behind win over Div. 4 Melrose-Mindoro)
  10. Immanuel handily defeated regional opponent, McDonell Central, 63-44

The following chart shows the teams listed in order of their current records along with their winning percentage and MaxPreps ranking (all info. current as of today, 2/16/2012):

Team Record W% MaxPreps (2/14)

Game 19: Blair-Taylor @ Immanuel

More updates coming ...

At Eau Claire Immanuel
February 14, 2013

Eau Claire Immanuel:  54   (16-3, 11-1)

Blair-Taylor:  40  (6-6, 8-12)

NOTE:  The Lancers were able to secure a victory this evening on Senior Night at Immanuel.  While Immanuel started this evening with cold shooting in the first half, the score being 17-22, things started coming together in the 3rd quarter in order for the team to pull ahead for a win.  The four seniors are commended for their committment to Immanuel basketball, transitioning the program to a winning atmosphere.  Under their leadership the past two years, these seniors have gone 35-9 and have won two consecutive conference titles, an amazing feat in the history of this program.  Previously it had taken several years to accumulate that many wins.  We thank these seniors for all that they have done!

  • Abbie Hein
  • Lauren Lisak
  • Johanna Ohlmann

Game 18: Immanuel @ Cochrane-Fountain City

More updates coming ...

At Cochrane-Fountain City
February 12, 2013

Eau Claire Immanuel:  65   (15-3, 10-1)

Cochrane-Fountain City:  30  (9-10, 7-5)

NOTE:  Immanuel is now the 2012-13 Small Dairyland Conference Champion!!!  This is the only time in Immanuel history that a basketball team has repeated its quest for a  conference title.  The Lady Lancers anticlimatically clinched the title outright by handily beating 2nd place Cochrane-Fountain City (CFC) this evening, 65-30.  At halftime the Lancers defensively held CFC to a mere 8 points as the Pirates found themselves in a difficult hole from which to dig out.  In a team effort, the Lancers held on for the decisive victory, extending their winning steak to 11 games.  Of note this evening, Melrose-Mindoro handed the Large Dairyland Conference champion, Eleva-Strum, a 28-40 loss, currently leaving Eleva-Strum with a 10-2 record.  The Lancers will now play Eleva-Strum twice next week, once for their last conference game on Monday, Feb. 18, and then at the Dairyland Crossover on Saturday, Feb. 23, for the battle between the two first place teams!
