Eau Claire Immanuel: 52 (12-3, 7-1)
Melrose-Mindoro: 50 (4-13, 4-5)
NOTE: The Lady Lancers had another heart-thumper tonight as they came back to get a thrilling victory after trailing the entire second half and pretty much nearly the entire game. Just when everything appeared to be quite hopeless with less than a minute left, Emily Hein drilled her 4th three-pointer for the night in order to tie the game up, 50-50. She shot her three from the same spot as she nailed a game-tying three near the end of a game against Blair-Taylor at the Dairyland Crossover held at Melrose-Mindoro last March. Giving the Lancers great hope and clearly the momentum, the team had a great defensive stop, securing the ball after a Melrose-Mindoro turnover. Then, on an in-bounds play with misdirection and defensive attention focused on Abbie Hein, Abby Sydow found a wide-open Rachel Schaser at the block who hit the game-winning layup with less than 20 seconds left. In the remainder, the Lancers were able to prevent Melrose-Mindoro from having any good looks at the basket as the buzzer gave way to a very excited team and Immanuel crowd base. This is the first time in recent years in which the team was behind for most of the game and then came back to win the game in under less than a minute left. This was truly an amazing win!
With the victory, the Lancers continue their magical season with a 12-3 best-ever record and now tie a best-ever eight-game winning streak record as well. This last accomplishment has happened two other times: 2005-06 and 2011-12, both seasons in which the Lancers won the Small Dairyland Conference title. The team continues to lead the Small Dairyland Conference with a 7-1 conference record and now has a two-game lead over Cochrane-Fountain City who is 6-4 in conference games.
The team was short-handed this evening, now with three key players out with injuries: Johanna Meyer with a concussion, Johanna Ohlmann with an ankle sprain, and Rebecca Naumann with a foot injury (either stress fracture or tendonitis). Rhiannon Roehl and Abi Bernthal both were able to step up in the rotation this evening and provide some solid minutes.
