Mel-Min volleyball grabs first conference win, tourney title

by Cassandra Colson, Reporter

The Melrose-Mindoro volleyball team sealed its first conference victory and also claimed a championship trophy at the annual Dairyland Conference Invitational last week.

...

“The Mustangs received some well-balanced play from the entire team,” said head coach Laurie Boone.

...

Last Saturday, Mel-Min traveled to Independence for the annual Dairyland Conference Invitational where it claimed first place.

“(The) Mustangs saw some tough competition,” Boone said. “This tournament revealed that many of the conference schools have potential to pull off wins against each other.”

Teams were randomly placed in pools, and the winners of each pool played each other for the championship trophy. Mel-Min split with Eau Claire Immanuel in championship pool play, winning 25-18 and falling 16-25.

“Immanuel (scored) a total of two more points in the match, which would have given Immanuel the first-place trophy had they beaten Independence both sets,” Boone said. “However, Independence upset Immanuel during one set, which opened up the opportunity for the Mustangs to capture the trophy.”

Mel-Min then sealed first place by defeating Independence 25-16 and 25-19.
