Basketball: WSN Pre-Season Rankings

WSN published its pre-season rankings in the following article. Interestingly, Immanuel's Dairyland conference opponent, Independence, is ranked #9 in Division 5.

Division 5

1) Newman – Defending champs are the heavy favorites again, especially with Taylor Thomas coming back.

2) Prentice – Abbie Anderson and Cassie Hallstrand give Buccaneers as talented of a duo as you'll find in D5.

3) Northwood – Lots of talent and potential come back for the Evergreens, who made it to D4 state tourney last year.

4) Black Hawk – Warriors will miss All-State forward Kim Wellnitz, but have versatile athletes ready to excel again.

5) Seneca – Went undefeated in Ridge & Valley last year, including two wins over state tourney team Weston.

6) Weston – Head coach Lauretta Pickel welcomes back Chelsea Drea to try to lead Silver Eagles back to state tournament.

7) Siren – Carley Emery and Ashley Guevara give Dragons one of state's best 1-2 scoring punches.

8) Barneveld – Perennial contenders lose five starters from last year but feature a lot of young talent ready to step in.

9) Independence – Indees are very athletic and run the floor well for veteran head coach John Zilla.

10) Southwestern – Pair of returning 1st team all-conference performers has Southwestern poised for a big jump.

Basketball: Practice Starts Today!!

Basketball: 2010-11 Season to Begin Soon!!

Only one week left until the 2010-2011 basketball season begins for the Immanuel ladies! Tryouts will be next Wednesday, Nov. 17, during the first practice of the season. The first game will be at home against Lake Holcombe on Tues., Nov. 30.

Shooting Gun Arrives

This week a new shooting gun arrived at the Immanuel gym! This is a machine that mechanically passes to a player so that he/she can practice shooting. The machine is programmable to pass at different shooting locations if you wish. Here's a link with more information:

A HUGE thank you to the Immanuel Athletic Boosters for providing the money for this! Undoubtedly this will give both the boys and girls basketball teams an opportunity to improve their shooting performance.

Lau makes all-Dairyland first team

Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran setter Heidi Lau was named to the all-Dairyland Conference first team Monday.

Lau, a senior, finished her prep career with more than 1,000 assists. The Lancers went 7-2 in Dairyland play - tied for third place - and advanced to the WIAA Division 4 regional semifinals.

Congratulations to the girls for another great season of volleyball! Among some of the team's accomplishments were the following:

3. Dairyland Invitational Runner-up (2nd place)
4. Edgar Invitational: 3-way tie for 1st place
   
5. Season Match Record: 18-9-3
   
6. Conference Match Record: 7-2
7. Season Set Record: 55-30
8. Amazing 5-set victories against Mel-Min and Eleva-Strum
9. Lost heart-breaker, 5-set match to first place Alma
10. Beat Wittenberg-Birnamwood, HM state-ranked in Division 2
11. State-ranked as HM throughout entire season in Division 4
12. Amazing fan support
    
13. Amazing team chemistry

NOTE: We also congratulate the JV and C teams for winning seasons and the JV team for being this year's Dairyland Conference JV Tournament Champs.

There was a tremendous improvement with every individual on the varsity team, leading to the team being very competitive and very fun to watch. Each of the girls contributed with her own special role and each had her own special moments to bring about the team's success. Thanks to the team managers, Melanie Hallstein and Rachel Mackensen, for all that they did throughout the year.

Thanks to the girls, to Coach Lau, and to Coach Sydow for the memorable season!

Coach Lau writes in the Immanuel Daily Bulletin:

"On behalf of our team, I would like to express our sincere appreciation for the awesome fans we had this season. I attended the regional final in Chippewa on Saturday and you put their crowds to shame. We loved playing for you and wished we could have kept playing. Congratulations also to the girls in our program this season. All three teams fared well, with the varsity girls finishing with a 7-2 conference record, one point away against Alma to winning their 4th consecutive conference title. Great season!!"
